Since the explosion SFX is being changed, I believe the same must be done to jet engines. Currently, they sound more like a vacuum cleaner than a real jet engine.
The sound should also be influenced by the settings applied on the engine.

also implement some of the XML properties from the rocket engines, like exhaust/afterburner color, throttle response, etc.
