Astronauts (at least on my computer) can't click on things in first person unless paused. I'm not sure if this is too reduce lag or something, but it is something i've noticed a little bit after the astronaut update.

Astronauts can interact with switches and MFDs while in first person, but selecting parts requires cursor interaction, which you get either by going to 3rd person or pausing the game
