I have noticed that, unlike SP, SR uses metric units. However, speed is in m/s, which isn't good for everything. I think we should have an option to select units we want to use. I'm sure many Americans would like mph, full aviation geeks knots, and many of us from the rest of the world km/h. Same goes for altitude and other length measurements (meters, feet).

    @aripander that's nice. You can post it unlisted and tag me on it (just like you did here) so I can see if it's suitable now, if you want.

    @treeform why?

    @PriyanshuRoy I don't think an option to switch your units to metric would affect your SI in any way. You would keep using that, and I'd press the button to switch my units to the kind I like.

    I don't think this should be added.

    @AngelLestat Yes please, give people a reason to learn it. I'm from the US and HATE the imperial system because there is no consistency. 12 in. per foot, 3 feet in a yard, and 1760 yards or 5280 ft. in a mile!? I would love to use the metric system regularly but have no reference to use here. Everyone should use the metric system and everyone should drive on the right side of the road, simply because both are the most widely used around the world.

    @EternalDarkness Don't mind but it has been said in sr1 itself that real rocket scientists use S.I . Although your idea is good,but Simplerockets 2 was originally meant for spacecraft,and we need really precise measurements there.Besides,SI system was taken because there was confusion related to units,it would cause confusion in the long run. Besides,it would make our calculations a ton difficult.

    This is a good opportunity to force US citizens to learn the system that everybody else in the world use. Just saying :)

    @Rexy no offence taken. I'm glad we agree.

    @EternalDarkness My apologies, I misread "everything" as "anything". I agree that an option would be a good thing.

    @Rexy I never said m/s isn't good for anything. It's just not good for planes, ships, cars, blimps, trains... They are all too slow to need such an accurate measurement, and they can adjust their speed anytime. We are all used to measuring their speed in knots / mph / km/h. Also, users from USA would probably like an option to use Imperial system, as that's what they are used to.

    meters per second is the industry standard, I suppose the option to change it wouldn't hurt.

    In response to m/s not being good for anything, it is in fact one of the most useful measurements, first off it is the default for any mechanics solution ever due to being based as a unit of seconds, which is defined directly in terms of the speed of light making it necessarily constant in every observation frame. The size of the unit is also very applicable for actually seeing what is happening, rockets exist on the size scale of meters and when doing maneuvers it is more effective knowing about where you'll be in one second rather then in an hour. Not to mention forces are computed in Newtons which directly translate to meters/second^2. If I had my way everything would be done in metric.

    Ultimately I agree with you, we should have the choice. though metric is the superior system and meters per second is just about the best measure of velocity on human scales, kilometers per second have some validity for orbital transfers but meters per second is still my preference and the preference of all those I've interacted with in industry.

    No joke, I would like to see someone try and gauge a moon landing in km/hr
