Grounded crafts clip through the ground when approaching them

I've been sending various landers and rovers to Luna, and a problem I've encountered is that approximately half of the times I've tried to rendezvous with them, they start falling into the ground when I get relatively close (<1km). Could be because my physics settings are low.
