Auranos (In the Juno system coming soon)

Description:

Auranos is a frigid, isolated ice giant, its light blue atmosphere veiled by high-altitude haze of methane which scatters sunlight into cobalt and indigo colours. With a radius of 4,924 km and a surface gravity of 11.27 m/s², the planet's hydrogen–helium envelop is thick and compresses down over a mantle of volatile ices dominated by water, ammonia, and methane.

The planet's atmosphere extends to 19.9 km, then thins into the upper haze layer, where wispy strands of photochemical clouds scatter starlight into pale turquoise colors. Methane absorption accounts for Auranos's blue color, and its high rate of rotation produces frantic jet streams and polar storms.

Below its surface lies a region of supercritical fluids — a dense, electrically conductive fluid thought to create Auranos's powerful magnetic field, which is highly tilted relative to its axis of rotation.

Though distant, Auranos dominates its outer system, holding under its thumb small icy moons and ring particles in its gravity well. The sparse Auranian rings, composed of micron-diameter ice dust, glows with a pale blue hue if viewed in backscatter from the system's star.

In space, Auranos is a heavenly sight: a quiet, spinning sapphire blue marble of cloud, vast and distant, where day and night blur into the eternal twilight of the outer rim.
