Stephenson 2-18 is one of the largest known red supergiant stars, located in the Scutum constellation approximately 19,000 light-years away.
With a radius over 2,000 times that of the Sun, it has a cool surface temperature (~3,200 K) and extremely low surface gravity (~0.001 m/s²).
Its vast, diffuse atmosphere extends over a billion meters, making it a massive and fascinating star to explore.
A true giant among stars, Stephenson 2-18 offers an awe-inspiring sight in the universe of Juno: New Origins.

Stephenson 2-18 is NOT the largest star. Why? Because The method used to estimate Stephenson's radius was luminosity(estimated at 440,000 solar luminosities). But the star is probably not in the cluster assumed, making its distance unknown. this means its true luminosity, and therefore actual size, is unknown as well. It was estimated to be about ~2,150 solar radii, way over the theoretical maximum of 1,700, further indicating that the estimation is inaccurate. If the values were correct it would also be below the Hayashi limit, and not in hydrostatic equilibrium, but this bit gets beyond my knowledge. But it's for these reasons Stephenson is not considered the largest star, and even if it is, current measurements are not accurate enough to say.
