WASP-127b is a bloated gas giant orbiting extremely close to its host star, located around 520 light-years from Earth in the constellation Virgo. Despite having only ~0.16 times Jupiter’s mass, it boasts a radius 1.37 times larger than Jupiter, making it one of the least dense exoplanets known — often described as a “super-puff” or “cotton candy” planet.

This planet orbits its star in just 4.18 days, receiving intense radiation that heats its atmosphere to over 1,400°C. Its skies are rich in exotic elements — water vapor, sodium, lithium, and possibly hazes — making it a key target for atmospheric studies.

The thick, extended atmosphere of WASP-127b gives it a golden, hazy appearance, glowing under the constant glare of its parent star. Due to its low gravity and extreme heat, atmospheric escape is likely, constantly reshaping its upper layers.

An excellent candidate for science missions in Juno: New Origins, WASP-127b offers incredible opportunities for aerobraking, atmospheric reentry, and orbiting stations.
