Players are creative in different ways. Some are great at building for function, for aesthetic, for authenticity, and so on. Some players are great at making videos, but until now we've never had a way for those players to share their creativity with the community. To be honest, I'm a terrible builder by today's standards! Personally, I think I'm much better at making videos than building. Starting today, we have opened up a new section on the site where players can create video posts with embedded YouTube videos.

There are two types of video posts: Original Content (OC) and non-OC. If you have your own YouTube channel, you can verify your channel and start submitting OC today. The advantage of submitting OC is that you will receive 15 points per upvote and your followers will receive a notification when you post a video. If you are submitting non-OC (ie - someone else's video), then it will work just like a forum post and you will receive 2 points per upvote and no follower notification. Submitting non-OC is a great way to share a relevant, interesting video with the community and have a conversation about it.

We do ask that if you create a video post that you ensure it is relevant to SimplePlanes or SimpleRockets. We don't want fail compilations, music videos, videos of other games, etc.

We've also made a change so that the front page shows a mix of all post types, instead of just craft posts. Now video posts, forums, sandboxes, etc can make it to the front page. (This is very much experimental and may change in the near future.)

I'm looking forward to seeing new videos made by the community! Thanks for reading!

We will begin development in early 2019. At this point, it is too early to give a release date estimate. Once we’ve started to peel the onion back we’ll have a better grasp on how long it will take to get the mobile version blasting off.

@PlanesofJundroo, you need to understand that storing your video file on their servers or somewhere on clouds will cost them a lot of money. And there is also a need of porcessing power to stream them to users, which will cost a lot too.
@AndrewGarrison, you don't say! Nowadays SP and SR2 builders are awesome! I feel like I don't deserve my platinum acc on SP when I'm looking on their masterpieces =)

@PlanesofJundroo No, we don't have any plans to do that. Video is hard to do right, and YT does an awesome job.

I don't have a youtube channel, except I want to still share videos. Could you add a feature to put recorded videos onto this website? @AndrewGarrison

@Mod Square thumbnails are tricky. It attempts to crop out a reasonable square from the middle, but I know that doesn't always look great. At some point in the future, I would like to improve it a bit.

Oooh, cool! I've got a question though. Will we be able to adjust the thumbnails of the videos in the videos section? The thumbnails don't exactly scale very well to the little boxes.

This makes a lot more sense just thinking about it. Good luck everyone.
