This is a question I’ve never thought about. I honestly have no idea. I don’t think there actually is a way outside of Tinker Panel. Well, besides heat shields.
The color of plant life also relies on what color of light is emitted more than others. For example, our sun emits mostly green light. Most of our plant-life is green to reflect the majority of the light in order to not overload themselves with energy.

For a K-Type star, the plant-life would likely be a dark red, and for a M-Type star, it would likely be black.
You can just make a propeller and use it in the water. Another option is to just use a rocket engine, they work underwater. There should also be tutorials somewhere on YouTube for making boats.
They should add an Easter-egg in game referring to the game’s original name.
