HYPERION CRYOGENIC UPPER STAGE
The HCUS represents a massive technological and engineering leap over previous long-duration cryogenic upper stages. Destined to sit atop a Hyperion launch vehicle, this stage pushes the limits of engineering and science.
OVERVIEW
The HCUS is a cryogenic upper stage, meaning that it is fueled by LH2 and LOX. The stage utilizes the unique hanging-tank design, suspending the LOX tank below the LH2 tank in a very non-aerodynamic manner while still looking really cool. The LH2 barrel(white) is approximately 18.2ft in diameter, while the smaller LOX tank is just 11.5ft in diameter. 6 carbon-fiber composite struts link these two structures together. 12 helium bottles are attached to these struts for tank pressurization. An equipment shelf hangs below the LOX tank, holding flight computers, batteries, and hydrazine for the RCS thrusters. This shelf also serves as the thrust structure, containing the two RL-10C-X engines that power the HCUS. Atop it all, a carbon-fiber PAF allows for a seamless interface between launch vehicle and payload. Additionally, a set of precise RCS thrusters keep HCUS oriented properly.
DETAILS
HCUS will fly soon as the second stage of the new Hyperion launch vehicle. It will provide high-efficiency to a powerful base. The stage has a burn time of approximately 10.4 minutes, and will be able to preform mission durations lasting up to 48 hours. Once mated to Hyperion, only the white LH2 section will be visible.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
This build took me over 27 hours to complete. It is my most detailed craft yet. I also (finally) figured out how to change engine plume color, allowing for the ultra-realistic and brilliant blue plume from the RL-10C-X that gradually thins to barely visible once in space. Instructions are simple, turn on AG10 if you want to rotate, and be sure to check out the cameras.
ENJOY!

@VectronTechnologies eh, Ai is fine, mostly and sometimes you just need help, technically all AI does is regurgitate peoples words so it’s still a little bit of human creativity and knowledge. Except AI art.

@OACOTEOC, yeah, it’s a sea-level pressure test of the RL-10C-X, showcasing the vivid blue flame,.

@VectronTechnologies, I designed the stage and all, but I couldn’t figure out the engine color effects, so…

AI Assisted Builds? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of creativity?

Another banger, let’s get you to 5K! Also what’s the last photo? Is it an engine test or something?
