A multiplayer server could function as an anarchy server that always runs at 1 times speed. It is a preserved sandbox open at all times and time moves along even when no one is around. There would be private and public servers. Public servers are open except to the banned, and private servers are invitation only.
Sure, the regular missions would take forever, but people would likely use modded light speed ships like an X Wing. It is also great for strategy and for even long term scenarios like a Cold War.
Multiplayer functionalities aside from server mechanics could include:
-Nations - A sort of alliance that someone can create and others would join via open joining or via application, features ranks and authority based on rankings
-Extrasolar Wormhole - A gate which serves as a spawn point for players who choose to be aliens visiting the system set by the server founder
-Events - Things that occur that players can solve, such as a race to a randomly selected planet, starting at the Home Planet, which would be set by the founder
-Weapons Tab - An extra section of items such as guns, lasers, explosives, missiles and tractor beams. These things would be able to be slapped on any craft, but would only have one attachment point. They would have only a base attachment point due to the fact that weapons can only exist in a multiplayer server. Therefore, crafts will not stop working in a single player server if something has weapons on it.
