The ability to create your own planets and share them with other players on SimpleRockets.com.

  • Include an editor where players can tweak the procedural generation and control the overall look of the planet.
  • Adjust planet radius, surface gravity, sea level (if it has water), and rotation speed.
  • Adjust atmosphere parameters such as density, wavelength, etc.
  • Build solar systems using their planets (or other players' planets) and adjust their orbital parameters. For example, they could easily make a solar system with an Earth-like planet orbiting a gas giant.

    @AstronautPlanes - the json output is pretty clearly self-documenting, so I don't know how much teaming is required. Lots of modders use paid tools to make models, animations, textures, etc.

    I think SR2 should have its own planetary studio, but I don't expect it to do climate modeling and all the other advanced simulation that US² does.

    But SR2 would need to team up with US2, and, people would need to buy US2.

    Also, it's far more better to SR2 to have its own planet editor.

    Perhaps SR2 could import planets from Universe Sandbox 2 simulations?

    Universe Sandbox 2 saves .ubox files, which are PK-zip archives containing other files, in particular simulation.json that describes all of the bodies and their parameters.

    I think US2 is the perfect editor to work out the orbital parameters for a realistic solar system. However, SR2 might have to impose constraints on what sort of simulations it can import, because US2 allows a lot of bonkers scenarios.

    @AndrewGarrison Is there any possibility for detail brushes? Like, I want to mold my own mountains and paint the cliffs. Is that a thing yet? Or could it be?
    And will there be a grass or tree tool that could perhaps host other 3D objects?

    Players could also choose if it is a rocky planet, a gas giant, a star, or an asteroid, also they could choose shapes, spheres, "asteroid shape" or anything that they could want.
