Astrobiologists once speculated that microbial life existed in the subterranian oceans of this small ice moon. Later visits revealed that the organic matter that spewed from geysers were just a collection of molecules that never formed into living organisms. Astronomers speculate that this moon’s miniscule gravity is the reason for the absence of life.

The radiation from Saturn’s Van Allen belts, which is less intense than that of Io, makes settlements on the surface more feasible. The abundance of anti-matter that circulates around Saturn's rings makes Enceladus the largest collector and provider of anti-matter in the Sol system.
