The Prowler Rover

"Nearly Unstoppable"

Video Here

This beast will climb almost any hill you put in front of it.
It also maintains 20 m/s on the ocean floor

CONTROLS:
Pitch - Forward and Reverse
Yaw - Sharp Turn (Not for steep hills!)
Roll - Mild Forward Turn (For Steep Hill Adjustments)

  • Both Yaw and Roll turns are very weak at high speeds.
  • You have to slow down to around 40 m/s or less to get it to turn.
  • This is designed for creeping up hills and over the hanger.

If you can not climb a hill, first make sure all of the tires are touching the ground for maximum traction.
This means that you have to hit a steep change slowly at first to allow all the wheels to make contact during the transition.

  • For 90 degree hills you have to speed up slowly to make sure your tires are still all touching. Then go full pitch once you are near vertical. This only works for so much distance and then you start to fall off the cliff or get tossed off by a minor bump in the terrain.
  • Try to keep the craft facing straight up hill when climbing for best results.
  • Also try to slow down before the top of a hill or you will just keep going and it isn't designed to fly...

Thanks for trying it out for those of you that do!

Thank you! This prowler rover here is 100% dreamed up. I believe it could be done in real life with drive shafts and gears with a diesel engine.
I agree, that Pragyan suspension assembly is very useful for such a simple design.
I like this other Mining Rover I made too.
I took the wheel assembly design from one of my kids toys. Works great!

@TestRunner This rover of yours is great! It like the rocker boggie mechanism of Chandrayaan 2's rover, Pragyaan!!!!!

This build was intended to defeat the cliff faces of Droo as a land vehicle.
If I add all that stuff, it will be too heavy to climb a steep embankment and with no point in doing so if it can then fly.
Feel free to do so though, I will check it out lol

If I re-visit this build I will be giving it a speed limiter and finding a way to make the system less explosive but still heavy enough for max traction while maintaining its low center of gravity. I might stick a rear parachute on it just for drag on downhill descents to help keep the nose downhill.
Also a way to flip over from being upside down would be sweet.

Stick wings and engines on it and it's good to go. And make it an SSTO. And give it the ability to do an interplanetary transfer burn with ions. Then cover the entire thing in thermal protective material so it can land on other planets!

    @Helius Thank you!
Haha I have broken it many times. It hits top speed fast and there are batteries for weight on the wheels for traction so it doesn't like big jumps. I was going to give it a speed limiter but flat land travel gets boring. Hardest part now is remembering to slow down before the top of a hill to make sure you don't become airborne.

I think it would be quite challenging to make a tank tread do this unless you broke them up into multiple tracks like they way people modify their ATVs and Trucks to have tracks. Each wheel has its own track system on 3 sprockets.

In the craft description it mentions that you must slow down below 40m/s to turn.
yaw is sharp turn, like a tank.
roll is mild forward turn for uphill climbs.

Why is it so hard to steer? even with my game on 10x speed, it’s barely steering

Awesome job dude🔥🔥, I wonder if it's possible to do the same with tank treads though

    Thank you very much.
I'll be honest, this rover has never seen another moon or planet while in my control.
It will be fun to optimize it for them.
